YFD / YO

YFD / YO
To work a yarn forward knit to the point in the pattern where it is called for and bring the working yarn to the front of the right needle. Keep the yarn here and continue with the rest of the row. This creates a loop on the needle that forms one new stitch. When working back along the next row the yarn forward stitch will look like this. Work it as normal being careful not to let it slip off the left needle. Yarn Forward is also sometimes known as Yarn over, so can be abbreviated as either YFD or YO. This increase adds small hole in the fabric.
