What to listen to while crafting

People often ask me how I keep myself motivated while working on my own each day running my small business and blog. Well, various things keep me going (hello numerous cups of tea!) but the main thing is radio. I simply cannot get through each day without it. Radio has that perfect mixture of interesting interviews, great music, comedy, latest news and most importantly, it isn’t visually distracting like TV programmes or films. I can sit and work uninterrupted while keeping my mind inspired at the same time. So, today I thought I’d share a few of my favourite stations and shows, which you might like to listen to while crafting and working too.

BBC Radio 6

This is my go-to radio station. I usually start and finish the day on it. Not only do they play every type of music going but they play up and coming bands and artists too, which is great for discovering new songs and albums. They also have really engaging and often hilarious, down-to-earth interviews with not just musicians but writers, poets, actors, comedians and more. To top it off, the DJs are incredible and often have me in fits of giggles.

The Adam Buxton Podcast

Adam Buxton’s podcast is quite frankly what I think of when I hear the word, podcast. It’s brilliantly produced, very funny and always has me laughing from the start. Adam brings a fantastic balance of both dry and quirky humour combined with his laid back interviews with famous people. The conversational style is so relaxed, I always feel like I’m listening in on Adam chatting to his mates, it’s that well done.

1940s UK Radio

This takes you right back to the fabulous sounds of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Think Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, novelty songs, swing and jazz and you’re on the right track. It is run entirely by volunteers and is such a wonderful station. You’ll be feeling like popping a vintage dress on and your hair in curlers within moments of listening. It’s gorgeous and something I particularly love about it is the historical news broadcasts they share too. I’ve not found anything else like it.

BBC Radio 4 – Just A Minute

Ok, so this is a classic but oh, it’s so funny! I could listen to this on loop. It is clever, uplifting and very amusing! I love how you can catch up on the shows too, so it doesn’t matter if you miss the latest one.
