Fresh flowers are a real treat for me and most of the time I buy them to display in my house, changing them for each season. This got me thinking about what flowers are in season for each month and how we have such a variety to choose from! Hopefully this handy list of what is in season over the summer months will be useful.
Gerbera, Alstromeria, Daffodil, Freesia, Orchid, Peonies, Roses, Stocks, Sunflowers
Cornflower, Alstromeria, Delphinium, Iris, Magnolia, Roses, Stocks, Sunflowers
Pussy Willow, Daffoldils, Alstromeria, Snap Dragon, Stocks, Zinnia
I also wanted to share some tips for making cut flowers last longer. Make sure to check the water daily and add more if needed. It is useful to trim the stems each time as recutting allows the stems to soak up the water. Be sure to use the flower food provided with cut flowers – it usually contains sugar to add nutrients to the plant, as well as an acidifier to keep the pH levels correct in the water. There are some great recipes online for making your own flower food too!
I hope you found this useful today. Let us know what your favourite flowers are for the summer months. Mine is the peony!
