To work the purl stitch, insert your right needle into the first stitch from back to front. Holding both needles in your left hand bring the working yarn to the front, wrap it anti-clockwise and push the loop underneath the left needle. Use your right index finger to ease the stitch off the end of the needle. and ease it off the end. Repeat this process until the end of the row. You generally won’t need to purl more than one row at a time. Alternating knit and purl rows creates a stitch pattern called stocking stitch.
