Picking up stitches – shaped

Picking up stitches – shaped

To pick up stitches along a shaped edge, we insert the needle into the row directly below the shaping – in this case decreases. Insert the needle through the middle of the first stitch, make a loop with the working yarn and holding both ends, pull it through to the front of the work to pick up and knit one stitch. Continue this for as long as needed following the shape of the work. The pattern will tell you how many stitches to pick up, and whether you need to use a ratio i.e picking up 3 stitches for every 4 rows.
