Picking up stitches – horizontal

Picking up stitches – horizontal

To pick up stitches along a horizontal edge, insert the needle into the first stitch below the cast off. Make a loop with the working yarn and holding both ends, pull it through to the front of the work to pick up and knit one stitch. Continue picking up stitches in this way, until you have one for each vertical column of stitches. It’s easy to accidentally pick up a stitch between the columns, so check that the picked up stitches are sitting in the middle of a V stitch as you go.
