Origami Butterfly DIY

This is one of my more favorite origami tutorials. These beautiful little butterflies are so simple to make, you can make them with ANY sized square paper and they are so versatile.  Here’s your step by step!

Why not pop them on a kebab skewer and use them as cake toppers? Or attach them to string and hang them as a mobile? The options are endless and we would LOVE to see what you do with yours so make sure you tag us in the pictures :).

Here’s your step by step!

Start with a square of paper (any size but the bigger the easier) Fold in half diagonally so that you are left with a triangle.

Fold in half diagonally so that you are left with a triangle. Open it up and do the same the other way

Fold the paper in half lengthways so that you are left with a rectangle. Open it up and do the same the other way

Push in the two sides – this is a little tricky to explain but the video should show you how!

Fold the two length-ways sides of one-half of your triangle into the center

Fold your triangle in half but do not put a crease all the way along, just pinch the center of your fold. The plan here is to have a small triangle peeping over the top of your butterfly

Fold the small triangle down – this is your butterfly’s face!

You should have two individual pieces at the back, pull these round to the front of your butterfly

Finally, give your butterfly a pinch down the middle to give him/her a pretty shape. And there you have it! A beautiful butterfly :).
