M1 – purl

M1 – purl
To make 1 new stitch on the purl side of the fabric, find the bar that runs between the stitches on each needle. Insert the tip of the left needle under the bar from front to back to place it on the left needle. Insert the right needle into the back loop of this thread (from back to front) and wrap the yarn anti-clockwise, and work as a normal purl stitch. This increase is quite rare and is abbreviated as M1 on a purl row, or M1P in patterns.
