Five Minutes With: Anna Ravenscroft

This month I have the pleasure of introducing you to another awesome knitter, whose designs are utterly gorgeous!

Hi, my name is Anna and from my base in leafy north London I create knitting patterns and products for a range of outlets, including my online shop KnittedWonderland. I love to create patterns that are fun, colourful and interesting to make, with a long-lasting appeal.

When did you start knitting?

Growing up with an avid knitter as a mum I was bound to start early and I learnt slowly doing a bit here, bit there but it all came together after I finished studying textiles at Central Saint Martins and I had truly caught the knitting bug!

What do you love about knitting?

I love the freedom of knitting – how you can turn an idea into a tangible object with only a few simple materials. It is also a wonderfully calm process and I find working at that pace leaves time for the knitting to evolve as you go until you have the perfect piece!

Can you share any top knitting tips?

As knitting is a slower, meditative craft it needs to be an enjoyable process. I found a good rule of thumb is that if frustrations are setting in early, the piece might end up in the dreaded ‘finish later pile’. Often just a small tweak, such as a different stitch or needle size can make all the difference and bring the fun back into the knitting.

When you’re not knitting, what do you like to do?

Well nothing beats some good food, old movies and a hot cup of tea to rest the knitting muscles, but I also love to explore the city and inevitably bring more plants home to grow in my small window-sill garden!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Anna! It’s been wonderful hearing all about your knitting world!
