I love this time of year when you can start planning new knitting projects for those autumn days sat by an open fire, with a cup of tea. I like to look for big projects such as jumpers, cardigans or blankets and today I thought I’d share some ideas on how to choose an autumn knitting project.
Colours / Autumn is a great time for gorgeous colours such as red, orange, yellow, green and brown. Instead of finding a yarn to suit your knitting project, why don’t you first look at the colours available and find a pattern to fit the yarn. You could even see what colours are going to be on trend. Yarn shops often have suggested patterns for yarns and I find that’s a great way to start a new knitting project I hadn’t previously considered.
Think big / If you’re going to be sat on the sofa knitting and watching films, why not try out those extra large knitting needles and knit up a gorgeous chunky blanket in burnt orange ready for the winter.
Autumn accessories / This is the time when you need scarves, gloves and hats, so why not knit something that you actually need to wear like a red bobble hat. I find knitting something seasonal encourages me to finish the project so that I can wear it in time.
Pinterest board / If you’re feeling overwhelmed with choice, why not put together an autumn themed Pinterest board to help you decide. You could include not only knitting patterns but colours and textures to help inspire you too.
Happy knitting and don’t forget to share your makes over on Instagram using the hashtag #simplestylishmakers.
