Picking up stitches – Crochet
Picking up stitches with a crochet hook is useful if you find it tricky to do with a straight needle. The method for picking up the stitches is exactly the same! With a horizontal edge, insert the hook into the first stitch below the cast off edge, loop the working yarn and pull it through to the front to pick up one stitch. Continue picking up stitches in this way, periodically transferring them to your needle. This is easy to do, simply slide the stitches to the other end and slip them across one by one. At the end, ensure you’ve picked up one stitch in the centre of each vertical column of stitches.
